COCSA Board Holds Planning Meeting
Cleveland Chiropractic College's Kansas City (CCCKC) campus was the site for the midyear planning meeting of the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA) board of directors.
At the meeting, held March 7-8, 2008, the board focused on a variety of initiatives, including ways to strengthen state association membership, communication enhancement and actions pertaining to state and national issues. The board also reviewed final plans for the upcoming annual COCSA convention, to be held Nov. 6-8 in San Antonio.
"[The] planning meeting centered on the tasks of communication, networking, Medicare action plan and the COCSA 2008 annual convention," said COCSA President Dr. Jerry DeGrado. "We had a very productive meeting and feel we have taken some critical steps in advancing the profession and helping the efforts of individual state associations."
Michigan Clinic Gives Back to Community
A new chiropractic clinic in Grand Rapids, Mich., is providing free chiropractic care to needy West Michigan residents. Dr. Eric Hartman, a member of the Michigan Association of Chiropractors (MAC), is spearheading this altruistic effort.
Currently, nine chiropractors are volunteering their services. Dr. Hartman says that for now, the clinic will focus on 160 individuals. New patients are allotted half-hour blocks of time in which the chiropractor can review the patient's profile and perform preliminary tests. A typical two-hour volunteer session is spent first seeing established patients, and then seeing two or more new patients.
Hartman said the volunteers could provide an ever-increasing quality and quantity of care with a few key donations of equipment and materials, such as a freestanding flexion distraction table. For now, he and the other volunteers are using a basic bench. He's also looking for other doctors to volunteer a day at the clinic.
"There are only so many people you can see in two or three hours," says Dr. Hartman. "The more doctors willing to donate just a couple of hours each month, the more people we can reach." To learn more about the clinic, including donation information, contact Dr. Hartman at hartmandc@hotmail.com.
Chiropractic/Massage Company to Open 100 Locations in Australia
N8 Touch, a Scottsdale, Arizona-based chiropractic and massage company, has announced the signing of its first international contract - a master franchisee agreement with Dr. Andrew Cameron and Dr. Mark Pierce of Golden Square, Australia for the development of 100 N8 Touch franchises throughout the country over the course of the next seven years. N8 Touch has already signed a multitude of franchise agreements throughout the United States including Phoenix, Salt Lake City, various Los Angeles locations, and Dallas and Humble, Texas.
The N8 Touch brand consists of three separate delivery systems. Most of the new franchisees will operate traditional, spa-like settings that also offer chiropractic care. The second concept incorporates a mobile massage studio that can be taken to offsite venues. The third component is a fixed station designed for high-traffic areas such as malls, airports and convention centers.
