When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
"Uncle Paul" Indicted on Obstruction-of-Justice Charges
Paul "Uncle Paul" Hollern, DC, was arrested and spent several nights in the Grayson County jail before being arraigned on Friday, June 9, in federal court on one count of obstruction of justice.
According to the grand jury indictment, "From on or about April 13, 2006, until on or about May 2, 2006, in the Western District of Kentucky, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and elsewhere, the defendant, Paul Hollern, knowingly, with the intent to retaliate against a witness for providing to a law enforcement officer truthful information relating to the commission and possible commission of a Federal offense, took action harmful to the witness by attempting to interfere with the witness's lawful employment and livelihood; to wit, the defendant falsely proclaimed to the witness's neighbors and employers that the witness was involved in, and under investigation for, child pornography."
Hollern has been under investigation for several months after Jeffrey Miller, DC, filed an 18-page complaint with the Kentucky Board of Chiropractic Examiners against the UnclePaul Chiropractic Business Training Corporation. Dr. Miller served as the chief operations officer for the organization from Oct. 1, 2003 to Jan. 8, 2004, before filing the complaint, which cited numerous alleged violations of state statutes. In the fall of last year, Hollern began seeking a release from investor obligations, and on Oct. 14, 2005, he filed for bankruptcy in Jefferson County, Ky.
The current indictment came after Hollern tried to discredit Dr. Miller by telling neighbors Miller was involved in child porn. According to the U.S. attorney's office, Hollern knew he was under investigation for these complaints and struck out against Miller, who was cooperating with federal agents.
"The grand jury alleged he talked to [the witness's] neighbors about possibly being under investigation for child pornography," said U.S. Attorney David Huber in an interview with Kentucky television station WHAS 11. "Probably one of the worst things you could say about someone you know." According to Huber, the child porn accusations are completely false. His office maintains Hollern was punishing Miller for speaking to federal agents.
According to the indictment, Hollern was released on a $50,000 unsecured bond. No new court date has been set, but scheduling is expected to be finalized soon. Conditions of his release include a continuation of psychiatric treatment; travel restricted to Bullitt County and Jefferson County, Kentucky, (home to office); a curfew of 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.; no contact with witnesses or victims, including allegations to others about them; no attempts to dissuade witnesses from testifying or providing information against them; no firearm possession; and Hollern must report to the U.S. probation office as directed. If convicted, the maximum potential penalties are 10 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine and supervised release for a period of 3 years.
Hollern maintains a single chiropractic practice in Hillview, but according to WHAS 11 TV, the sign on the door of his office read "Closed due to a family emergency" as of press time. The corporate Web site of the UnclePaul Chiropractic Business Training Corporation (www.unclepaul.biz) has not been accessible since September 2004, shortly after Dr. Miller filed his complaint against Hollern.
