Northwestern News: Summer Science Academy, Alumnus of the Year
Northwestern Health Sciences University (NHSU) recently received a grant of $30,000 from the Carolyn Foundation to fund the school's second annual summer science academy for low-income and minority students. Fifty 8th graders from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, identified by teachers as showing high potential in math and science, will be invited to attend the Aug. 14-18 academy on the NHSU campus. According to academy directors, the camp offers students the opportunity to enhance self-awareness and self-confidence, explore new interests and careers, make lifelong friendships, and stimulate their minds while having fun.
In other NHSU news, Mike Ameli, DC, was honored with the alumnus of the year award at the university's Homecoming and Winter Gathering in February. The 1971 graduate was chosen for his ongoing dedication to his alma mater and his profession. In addition to maintaining a practice for the past 34 years, Dr. Ameli has served for more than 10 years on the NHSU alumni association board of directors, serving as president for two terms. As of press time, he is president elect of the Minnesota Chiropractic Association board.
Dr. Keith Henry Accepts Interim Post at CCCLA
A 1996 cum laude graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College - Los Angeles, Keith Henry, DC, has been appointed interim chair of clinical sciences. Even before accepting the position, Dr. Henry was a key asset to the college, having served as a clinician at CCCLA since May 2005.
"Dr Henry has quickly demonstrated his instructional skills and become a key asset to the Los Angeles Health Center team," commented Carl S. Cleveland III, college president. "The administration is pleased that he has agreed to act as Interim Chair of Clinical Sciences."
