We published Dr. Duane Lowe's "The Military and Chiropractic: Answers to FAQ" in the Sept. 13 issue. Dr. Lowe contacted us shortly thereafter to clarify a section of the text that has proven confusing to more than a few readers.
At the end of the article, Dr. Lowe segues briefly from his discussion on chiropractic clinics/positions within the Department of Defense (Army/Navy/Air Force bases), and mentions chiropractic opportunities within the Department of Veterans Affairs. However, he immediately returns to his previous discussion, noting the following:
"As the Department of Defense opens more chiropractic clinics at various bases around the U.S., you may decide that you would like more information about applying for these positions." Dr. Lowe then provides contact information for Aliron International, Inc., and Cherokee Nation Industries.
Apparently, a number of readers contacted Aliron and/or Cherokee, requesting information on chiropractic within the VA health system - much to the bewilderment of company representatives. Aliron and Cherokee are not involved or connected with the Department of Veterans Affairs or its chiropractic activities whatsoever.
According to Dr. Lowe, chiropractors interested in applying for positions at clinics in the Army or Air Force should contact Aliron International or Cherokee Nation, respectively; however, as of September 2004, all such positions have been filled, and no new positions have been announced as of yet by the Department of Defense. For Navy positions, monitor the Naval Medical Logistics Command homepage: www.nmlc.med.navy.mil.
