When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Chiropractic Attorneys Meet in Texas
Each year chiropractic attorneys from throughout the nation meet at the National Association of Chiropractic Attorneys (NACA) conference to discuss legal issues common to all doctors of chiropractic. This sharing of ideas will occur again this year when attorneys from as many as 40 states will meet on November 9-11 in San Antonio at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter.
"We serve as a clearing house of legal ideas for attorneys who deal with chiropractic clients," stated Paul Lambert, president of NACA and general counsel for the Florida Chiropractic Association. "It makes little sense to reinvent the wheel."
This year NACA attorneys will discuss a number of critical legal issues that face the chiropractic profession, including: the status of legal attempts to enforce a state's insurance equality law; federal Medicare HMOs that fail to use chiropractic services; insurance bad faith actions; statutory responses to insurance discrimination and its effect; NOOPE legal issues; RICO actions; and more.
"NACA offers a forum where we can make critical legal contacts with other lawyers working on the same issue," stated NACA member and general counsel for the Kansas Chiropractic Association, Steve Dickson. "This allows me to pick up the phone and obtain help from experts from throughout the country. It is a great benefit to our local doctors."
NACA has organized committees to deal with such important issues as informed consent and the standardization of chiropractic practice acts. NACA is also reviewing law review articles and other legal writings to ensure their accuracy.
The NACA was organized over 20 years ago by chiropractic association lawyers desiring a network of communication. The NACA is apolitical and meets without regard to any philosophical position.
