After a five-year investigation period, a foundation called Italian Chiropractic Foundation, Inc. was created to protect and promote education in "Philosophy, Science and Art of Chiropractic" in Italy.
The purposes of the foundation are:
a) to lay the foundation/basis for the creation of a private superior institution for the formation of doctors of chiropractic.
b) to strive unaltered, the principle of chiropractic as a separate and distinct health profession to the public.
c) to maintain unaltered, the principle of the chiropractic profession, based on the premise that the relationship between structure and function in the human body is a significant health factor.
d) to project, to promote, to execute, and to coordinate meetings, seminars, congresses, postgraduate studies, courses of specialization, and continuing education symposia.
e) to promote study and research, particularly in the chiropractic field to provide scientific validation.
f) to take care of disseminating and publishing books, magazines, and manuals.
g) to collaborate with international institutions and foundations having similar purpose.
h) to institute loans and scholarships for qualified and needy students, especially those coming from the Third World countries.
i) to take every step in order to reach those goals.
Location:
The Istituto Superiore di Chiropractica Pura (ISCP) will be located in the province of Cuneo, in the Piemont region of Northwest Italy. Italy is part of the European Common Market and will be one of the 12 countries making up united Europe in 1992. Several campus sites have been proposed already and an architect plan is actually being drawn.
Goals:
A. Italian law states that no degree can be recognized unless granted by an accredited and legal educational institution.
B. The ISCP is dedicated to issuing a doctor of chiropracTic degree to qualified students, to protect and promulgate the advancement of the philosophy, science, and art of the chiropracTic profession as a separate and distinct primary portal-of-entry health care provider and to maintain unimpaired chiropracTic.
C. The ISCP is seeking a legal foundation status named the Italian Chiropractic Foundation to promote the legal aspect and anticipate the financial resources to sustain a sound educational and research program.
D. The ISCP is considering adherence to the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) and is also considering joining the Straight ChiropracTic Academic Standard Association (SCASA) which has been recognized in 1988 by the Department of Education as an accrediting agency for chiropractic colleges. Within the Italian government, this would be looked upon with favor and the support of an accredited agency will be a plus.
Administration and Organization:
A. The ISCP shall be incorporated as non-profit, and shall be a private institution.
B. The ISCP shall have a governing board, or board of directors, which formulates institutional policies, and is capable of decision-making on matters of personnel, policy, and finance. The board of directors shall appoint the chief administrative officer and upon his recommendation, appoint faculty and administrative officers.
C. The chief administrative officer (president) and chief academic officer (vice president or dean) shall be qualified by training and experienced chiropractors.
D. The ISCP shall have an organizational chart showing administrative staff positions and their job description.
Non-Discriminatory Policy:
The Istituto Superiore di Chiropractica Pura will offer equal educational opportunity to all students and equal employment opportunity to all employees without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, creed, or handicap in admission or access to, or treatment of, or employment in its programs and activities.
Tuition:
A. The projected tuition for one academic year shall be nine million Italian lire (US $8,100 about). In addition to that tuition, there will be application fees, laboratory fees, clinic fees, health insurance fees, student (recreational) activity fees, equipment fees ... which have not been determined at this point.
B. Tuition and fees shall be paid 48-hours before registration at predetermined dates clearly stated in the financial calendar given in advance to every student.
C. No student will be accepted in any academic or clinical teaching facility if tuition has not been paid.
D. The ISCP shall publish a tuition refund policy which is fair and equitable to both student and the institution.
Students:
A. Since the emphasis shall be quality and not quantity, the students admitted will be carefully selected with requisite standards of education and proof of high moral values. The number of expected students shall be 300-400.
B. An up-to-date college catalogue will be available to all prospective students, with a detailed list of relevant information (facilities, academic, finances, calendar, objectives, and course description).
C. The ISCP shall have clearly printed policies on admission, prerequisites, financial aid, licensing, student welfare, student records, tuition, education, and grading system.
D. The future campus will be built for the physical and mental comfort of the students ("Mens sana in corpore sano"). In addition to the teaching facilities, the physical plant will include a sport center, an art center, student center, and conference center.
E. The ISCP's rules and regulations will be clearly explained in the student handbook to explain students' rights and responsibilities.
The F.A. counseling department will be available for those students who might need academic or psychological guidance.
When I graduated from chiropractic college in 1981 and started practice, I heard it all, and very little was positive. “You are a quack; you do not know what a subluxation is; you couldn’t get into a real health care program, so you chose the one that is slightly above a mail-order degree; you have no proof that chiropractic works; Are you really licensed?”, and so much more.

A central challenge in creating our identity is that chiropractic is a method of care, not a technique or procedure. This is an important concept for us to promote. Our patients are treated with lifestyle modification, exercise, nutritional supplements, diet and a whole-body approach to accelerate the natural healing process. We are not simply CMT providers.
The results of a global survey released late last year (2023) unveiled some startling findings among medical and nursing students. The “Clinician of the Future: 2023 Education Edition” surveyed 2,212 students, of which 446 were in the United States, from 91 countries.
