Life College Teacher of the Year Announced

For the third consecutive year, students at Life College elected Dr. Samuel H. Demons, Basic Sciences professor, the "Outstanding Teacher of Year." Dr. Ronald Hash, vice president for Academic Affairs at Life College, presented the award during the college's 1991 Homecoming banquet.

Dr. Demons received his Ph.D. from Atlanta University in Molecular Biology. He is a native of Atlanta, Georgia.

 



NYCC Sports Diplomate Program Held in Giants' Stadium

New York Chiropractic College (NYCC)'s diplomate program in Chiropractic Sports Injury was held October 19-20 at New York's Giant Stadium and was attended by chiropractors from all over the East Coast. DCs were greeted with the stadium scoreboard's message "Welcome New York Chiropractic College."

Welcoming speeches were made by Dr. Phillip T. Santiago, director of Chiropractic Sports Injury and course coordinator for the program; Dr. Richard F. Kroe, director of the Center for Postgraduate and Continuing Education; and Dr. Domenic Firriolo, who welcomed everyone on behalf of NYCC President Dr. Kenneth Padgett. Sean Lendetta, All-Pro punter for the two-time Superbowl champion Giants, was present for autographs and pictures. Sean spoke on the importance of chiropractic to the professional athlete.

To be eligible for the Sports Diplomate exam, DCs must have completed the 100-hour Sports Injury Certification Program (CCSP).

 



PCCW Faculty Participate in APHA Meeting

Faculty members from Palmer College of Chiropractic West (PCCW) joined public health leaders from the U.S. and over 50 other countries to address issues of national and international concern at the 119th Annual Meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA) in Atlanta, Georgia. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Sixth International Congress of the World Federation of Public Health Associations.

The chiropractic portion of the program included three panels, each featuring several presentations related to the primary topic. Dean of Research William Meeker, D.C., M.P.H., and professor Robert Jansen, Ph.D., were members of the panel on "Standards of Chiropractic Care for the Public's Health." Acting Chief Executive Administrator Donald Cassata, Ph.D., was a featured presenter on the "Implications of Chiropractic in a National Health Program" panel. The third panel addressed chiropractic science and featured the contributions of M.S.I. Dhami, Ph.D., and Mohan Menon, Ph.D."

 



PCCW Faculty Publishes in JMPT

PCCW faculty and alumni collaborated on two articles which were published in the October 1991 edition of the peer-reviewed Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT). "Effects of Cervical Adjustments on Lateral-Flexion Passive End-Range Asymmetry and on Blood Pressure, Heart Rate and Plasma Catecholamine Levels" was co-authored by Palmer West professors Dale Nansel, Ph.D.; Robert Jansen, Ph.D.; Ilyas Dhami, Ph.D., and alumnus Edward Cremata, D.C. "The Comparative Assessment of Paraspinal Tissue Compliance in Asymptomatic Female and Male Subjects in Both Prone and Standing Positions" reported the results of a project by Dr. Nansel and Thomas Waldorf, D.C., a research fellow at Palmer West.

 



NCC Alumni Association President Named DC of the Decade

Dr. Cameron DeCamp, president of the National College of Chiropractic (NCC)'s Alumni Association, was named the inaugural recipient of the "International Chiropractor of the Decade" by the Sacro-Occipital Research Society International (SORSI) at its annual meeting in Omaha, Nebraska. SORSI and its sister groups, the Pacific Asian Association of Chiropractors (PAAC) in Japan, and the Sacro-Occipital Teaching Organization (SOT) in Europe initiated the award.
