When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
APHA Meeting to Be Held in November
The American Public Health Association (APHA), the oldest and largest association of its kind in the United States and the world, will hold its 1991 annual meeting November 10-14 in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 1983 APHA has recognized chiropractic as "... safe and effective for neuro-muscular skeletal disorders, and especially low back problems." Over 500 DCs are now members of APHA.
Chiropractic will be represented at the 1991 APHA convention with booths and in topics presented among the scientific and technical papers. NYCC To Have Commemorative Postmark
As part of the opening day ceremonies at the Seneca Falls campus of New York Chiropractic College (NYCC), the Seneca Falls Post Office will be offering a special cancellation postmark to commemorate the events. In addition, NYCC will provide a temporary philatelic station with postal retail products and collectors' items available for purchase. This philatelic station will be open Saturday, September 14th from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Palmer Alumnus Appointed to Florida Health Council
Dennis Acquaro, D.C., of Daytona Beach, Florida has been appointed to the Florida Statewide Health Council as an allied health care provider. The appointment was made by the Speaker of the state House of Representatives, T.K. Wetherell. The council advises the governor, the legislature and the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services on state health policy issues, state and local health planning activities, and state health regulation programs.
Dr. Acquaro, a 1965 graduate of the Palmer College of Chiropractic, is president of the Palmer Alumni Association in Florida and is past president of the Florida Chiropractic Association.
New Vice President of Academic Affairs at Palmer
Joseph A. McCaffrey, Ph.D., has been appointed vice president of Academic Affairs at Palmer College of Chiropractic. In this capacity, Dr. McCaffrey will work closely with President Donald P. Kern, D.C., and will be responsible for directing and coordinating the development and implementation of academic policies. Other responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating all curricular and academic standards.
Dr. McCaffrey was a professor of philosophy at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa for 26 years, and served as a member of the Palmer Board of Trustees from 1986-1989.
Chattanooga Group Acquires Spinalator Company
The Chattanooga Group, a leading manufacturer of physio-therapeutic equipment, recently acquired the Spinalator Company of Asheville, North Carolina. The Spinalator Company is a 53-year old manufacturer of chiropractic adjustment tables. With this acquisition, the Chattanooga Group's chiropractic product offerings will increase substantially.
