NYCC To Introduce Sports Injury Diplomate Program
New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) will launch its diplomate program in Sports Injury on October 19-20, 1991 sponsored jointly by NYCC and Logan College of Chiropractic. The 18-session program is designed to enhance diagnostic skills, improve patient care, and develop an understanding of sports performance, injury prevention and treatment. After the completion of a 220 hour course, the attendees will be eligible for the diplomate examination administered by the Board of Chiropractic Sports Physicians. Those who pass the examination will be designated a diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians/Practitioners (D.A.C.B.S.P.)
NYCC Appoints New Director of Pre-clinical Studies
NYCC Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Domenic Firriolo recently announced the appointment of Dr. Barbara J. Davis to the position of Director, Pre-Clinical Studies. Dr. Davis, a graduate of Syracuse University, earned her doctoral degree in anatomy at the S.U.N.Y. Health Science Center in Syracuse, New York. She served as senior pre-doctoral fellow in the department of anatomy at S.U.N.Y. Upstate Medical Center, and as post-doctoral fellow in the department of anatomy of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. In 1986 she received a joint appointment as assistant professor in the department of neurology and neurobiology and anatomy at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Davis has published 32 scientific papers and abstracts of her research in various aspects of neuroendocrinology.
NYCC Postgraduate Students Eligible for Florida Acupuncture Exam
Thirty participants in NYCC's postgraduate program on acupuncture recently completed the program and are now ready to sit for the Florida State Licensing Board examination on acupuncture. Florida state licensure mandates the 100 hours included in the NYCC program, which has been designated as a pre-requisite for DCs qualifying to practice acupuncture. The NYCC acupuncture program includes a comprehensive examination, and candidates who successfully pass this exam are awarded the distinction of a fellow with the International Academy of Clinical Acupuncture, as well as a certificate of completion from NYCC. Drs. John Amaro and Abbas Qutab, both with NYCC's postgraduate division, were the program instructors.
NYCC Faculty Member Lectures on Child Abuse
Dr. Sandra Cubelli, assistant director of the NYCC postgraduate and continuing education division, was a lecturer on child abuse at the New York State Chiropractic Association (NYSCA) convention at the Hilton Center in New York City. New York State has mandated that every health care practitioner licensed in the state attend a two-hour lecture on "The Identification & Reporting of Child Abuse & Maltreatment." She received a B.S. in Nursing from Molloy College New York, and has worked in various New York state hospitals before receiving her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from NYCC. She has been studying and researching the effects of child abuse and its ramifications upon family life.
When I graduated from chiropractic college in 1981 and started practice, I heard it all, and very little was positive. “You are a quack; you do not know what a subluxation is; you couldn’t get into a real health care program, so you chose the one that is slightly above a mail-order degree; you have no proof that chiropractic works; Are you really licensed?”, and so much more.

A central challenge in creating our identity is that chiropractic is a method of care, not a technique or procedure. This is an important concept for us to promote. Our patients are treated with lifestyle modification, exercise, nutritional supplements, diet and a whole-body approach to accelerate the natural healing process. We are not simply CMT providers.
The results of a global survey released late last year (2023) unveiled some startling findings among medical and nursing students. The “Clinician of the Future: 2023 Education Edition” surveyed 2,212 students, of which 446 were in the United States, from 91 countries.
