When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."

Dr. Sid E. Williams Elected to Board of ICA
President and founder of Life College, Dr. Sid E. Williams, was recently elected chairman of the board of the International Chiropractors Association (ICA) for a second term at the ICA's 65th national convention. Dr. Williams joined the ICA while a student at Palmer College of Chiropractic 38 years ago.
A nationally known educator, Dr. Williams was nominated for the two-year term as chairman by ICA president Dr. James Gregg. Following new association procedures, the chairman was elected by the board itself.
Dr. Williams is the ICA's first elected chairman; prior to this year the outgoing president automatically became chairman and served for three years. He first succeeded to chairmanship of the ICA board in 1985 following a successful term as president. He became chairman again in 1989, when he was appointed to fill an unexpired term.
As a leading educator and authority on chiropractic, Dr. Williams has been interviewed in the New York Times, on "60 Minutes", featured in the Atlanta Constitution, Georgia Trend, and numerous other newspapers and magazines. He is familiar to television viewers as host of "Chiropractic Insight" on Superstation WTBS.
Life Appoints Chair of Basic Sciences
Dr. Macon M. Weaver has been promoted to chair the basic sciences division at Life College. Dr. Weaver, who holds a doctorate in anatomy from the University of Mississippi, has been working at Life College since 1981 as the chair of the anatomy department.
In his new position, Dr. Weaver's responsibilities include coordinating the division's policies, supervising the department chairs -- Dr. Tom Iha, chair of microbiology, pathology, physiology, and biochemistry; and Dr. Samuel Demons, chair of anatomy -- and representing the division in various standing committees such as academic review and curriculum. In addition to these new duties, Dr. Weaver will continue teaching central nervous system to fifth-quarter students.
Before teaching at Life College, Dr. Weaver was on the anatomy faculty of the University of Mississippi Medical Center and Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The North Carolina native received his B.A. in 1957, and a M.S.P.H. in 1962, both from the University of North Carolina.
Life College's Dr. Nell K. Williams Awarded ICA's "Woman of the Decade"
Dr. Nell K. Williams, senior vice president and dean of student affairs at Life College, was awarded the ICA's first "Woman of the Decade" award.
For her ongoing service in chiropractic, she has received recognition not only at Life College, which named its library the Nell K. Williams Learning Resource Center, but in the chiropractic profession as well. The ICA named her Distinguished Fellow of the association in 1980, and also selected her a "Special Envoy" for outstanding service to the profession. She is a charter member of the Georgia Council of Chiropractic and a long-time supporter of the Georgia Chiropractic Association. She is listed in the Who's Who in Chiropractic International, and is the author of the Basic Chiropractic Assistant Textbook.
New Chairman Appointed to the Florida Board of Chiropractic Examiners
Ronald J. Hoffman, D.C., P.A., was recently elected chairman of the Florida Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He has been a member of the board since 1985, after being appointed by both Florida governors Graham and Martinez. A resident of Tallahassee, Florida, Dr. Hoffman has served as vice president of the Florida board for the past three years and chaired the rules and continuing education committees, as well as the probable cause panel.
