When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
South Carolina Association Honors Dr. Hank Hulteen
At their annual meeting the South Carolina Chiropractic Association (SCCA) re-elected H.W. "Hank" Hulteen, D.C. to an unprecedented fourth term as president of the association, and named him their 1992 "Chiropractor of the Year."
Dr. Hulteen was first elected president of the SCCA in 1980 and again in 1981 to consecutive one-year terms. He was elected a third time in 1990 to a two-year term and began his fourth term in June. His election at this year's meeting makes him the longest-serving president in the history of the SCCA.
The "Chiropractor of the Year" award was presented to Dr. Hulteen for the second consecutive year by Mr. Michael D. Kelly, the SCCA's general counsel. The recipient is selected by the SCCA members, and is presented to the individual they feel has served the profession with the most effectiveness and distinction over the past year.
Dr. Hulteen is a 1973 Palmer graduate who is a past chairman of the South Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners and is currently serving his second term as chairman of the Board of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards.
Life College Hosts ICA's Womens' Night
Life College of Chiropractic hosted the International Chiropractors Association (ICA)'s "Women's Night" on May 14. Organized by student ICA President Teri Gasko, the topics ranged from challenges facing women in chiropractic today, to success principles and how to interest new patients.
The speakers included Dr. Laurie Briegal, Dr. Glenda Dukes, Dr. Martha Schneider, and Dr. Colleen Thum, all Life alumni. Also speaking was Dr. Nell K. Williams, a 1980 ICA "Distinguished Fellow," and ICA special envoy to the profession.
"When I went to school there were no more than five women," said Dr. Williams. "I have taken a lot of criticism but have learned not to take no for an answer. You must believe in what you're doing 100 percent."
