ACC Meeting Draws 17 College Presidents

The presidents of 17 American chiropractic colleges were among the participants at the semiannual meeting of the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC) held March 20 at Life College of Chiropractic. The college presidents also met with participants of the Congress of Chiropractic Educators Annual Financial Aid and Admission Directors meeting, which was being held concurrently in Atlanta.

 



CCE Conducts Study to Assess its Standards

The Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) has started the process of studying the validity and reliability of its Standards for Chiropractic Institutions (Standards), and assessing the accreditation process for chiropractic institutions. This study will have two phases. Phase I will assess the validity of the Standards as they relate to the functions of CCE, and will assess the validity of the Manual of Operations as a tool to assist the institutions in providing evidence that they are complying with the Standards.

Phase II is still in development, and will evaluate the validity and reliability of aspects of the accreditation process (institutional self-study process, the site team visitations, commission proceedings, etc.).

The survey results should be available in late 1992 with a final report completed in the spring of 1993.

 



NYCC Closes Women's History Month with Panel Discussion

The New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) capped off its celebration of women's history month (March) with a panel discussion on "Women in Chiropractic: Today's Success Story" featuring many of the prominent women educators in chiropractic. The panel members were: Dr. Beatrice B. Hagen, outgoing president of Logan College of Chiropractic; Dr. Jean A. Moss, president of Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC); Dr. Sandra Cubelli, associate director of NYCC postgraduate program and continuing education; Dr. Beth Donohue, NYCC dean of analysis and planning; Dr. Judy Silvestrone, NYCC faculty member; and Dr. Timothy Schaub.

The panel's organizer was Karyn Marshall, an NYCC student and five-time women's weightlifting world champion.

 



Louisiana DC Elected Chairman of Hospital Board

Glenn D. Manceaux, P.T., D.C. of Houma, Louisiana, was recently elected chairman of the board of commissioners for Terrebonne General Medical Center. The Center is a community-owned hospital with 200 beds, which in 1990 was awarded the "U.S. Senate Productivity Award." Dr. Manceaux has served as a commissioner for seven years and as the vice-chairman for the past two years. Dr. Manceaux is a post graduate instructor for Logan College of Chiropractic as well as a past member of the board of directors for the Chiropractic Association of Louisiana.

 



NYCC Focuses on Fundraising

The New York College of Chiropractic (NYCC) recently announced its 1992 Annual Fund Campaign, the first in its history. The goal is to raise at least $150,000 by August 31, 1992. Due to the New York State budget crisis, NYCC is receiving $500,000 less from the Bundy Aid program than it did in the past two years.

NYCC also held its 10th annual fundraising "5K Run for Health" and Health Fair on April 4th. The run raised over $2500 for the Finger Lakes Cerebral Palsy, Inc. Happiness House, a program which helps children and adults with developmental abilities.

 



New Director of Chiropractic Technology at Palmer

Susan Falzone, D.C., was recently appointed director of the Palmer's school of chiropractic technology. Dr. Falzone received a B.S. from Logan College of Chiropractic in 1986 and her DC degree from Logan in 1988. Previously, she taught CA courses for the Logan College postgraduate program, while also teaching at Cleveland College of Chiropractic in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dr. Falzone was active in the Missouri State Chiropractor's Association, serving as district president for two years, and was president of her district of the American Business Women's Association for two years. From 1988 until her appointment to director, Dr. Falzone had a private practice in Jefferson City, Missouri.
