When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Association of Chiropractic Educators is Born
Thirty faculty members from 12 chiropractic colleges unanimously voted over the March 21-22 weekend to form an association of faculty members to promote excellence in chiropractic education through improved instruction.
The mission of the Association of Chiropractic Educators (ACE) is to design and implement better educational programs; to evaluate and modify curriculum; and assist faculty in increasing their competency in the use of instructional technology. The ACE will also promote and reward faculty scholarships, particularly in the area of teaching.
The development of the ACE began four years ago when faculty from various colleges gathered at Palmer College to share their views and experiences in better meeting the educational needs of chiropractic students. A second meeting was held in the fall of 1991 at Palmer-West, where faculty presented papers on educational issues. At that meeting, a group chaired by Eileen Kennedy made plans for a third meeting that would include workshops and paper sessions.
The third meeting convened in Atlanta and was highlighted by a workshop and paper session on incorporating computer technology in instructional programs at the computer lab at Life College, and a second workshop on evaluating student achievement in the basic and clinical sciences. Separate sessions on written and clinic/technique examinations were also given, allowing instructors to evaluate their own testing methods against faculty peers.
Membership in the ACE is open to faculty members of accredited colleges, including postgraduate and retired faculty.
