Back pain? Blame the psoas. Seems as if everybody wants to dive headfirst into their psoas at the first sign of trouble with the lumbopelvic-hip region. Perhaps no other muscle is blamed more for causing problems than the psoas. Yes, it is an important stabilizer of the lumbar spine, but it shouldn't be the only one on which you focus. There is another big player on the scene: the iliacus.
You Asked for It ...
We've had many requests for reprints of the Journal of Family Practice paper, "Family Physicians, Chiropractors and Back Pain" (Peter Curtis, MD, and Geoffrey Bove, DC), that was discussed on the front page of the March 26, 1993 issue of "DC." This "special article," as the Journal of Family Practice rightly called it, is being seen as a powerful bridge between chiropractors and family physicians. This demand has prompted MPI to offer a reprint of this paper along with the supporting editorial by Daniel Cherkin, PhD, "Family Physicians and Chiropractors: What's Best for the Patient?" Both are available in limited quantities for only $7 (to cover cost of reprinting, handling, mailing). Please see page 5 for order form, or order by phone: 1-800-359-2289.
