When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
GCA Teams up with Georgia Special Olympics
The Georgia Chiropractic Association (GCA) announced that it will
sponsor the recruitment efforts and registration costs for the
Georgia Special Olympics (GSO), a program of sports training and
competition for those with mental retardation.
According to Dr. Patrick J. Sallurulo, chairman of the GCA's
Georgia Special Olympic fund, the organization has committed more
than $50,000 to the GSO, making it the largest contributor this
year. "These monies will directly benefit each of the 20,000
Special Olympians in our state, as well as pave the way for those
not currently registered to have a place within Georgia Special
Olympics," said Dr. Sallurulo.
To kick off their GSO fund raising efforts, the GCA held an initial
"Appreciation Day" during the second week of February. GCA doctors
provided services free of charge in exchange for a donation to GSO.
The DCs raised $4,901, bringing the organization's total donations
to GSO to $10,501.
The GCA has scheduled another Appreciation Day for the first week
in May, this time on a state-wide scale. Information on how to
hold your own Appreciation Day is available from members who
participated in the trial run in February, or from members of the
GCA/GSO Committee. For a list of these doctors, contact the GCA at
(404) 688-3730.
The "Doctors with a Heart" organization has announced that it is
willing to provide each GCA member with a information packet on how
to have a successful Appreciation Day. The usual fee for joining
this organization is $100, but members of the GCA have been offered
a fee waiver. The address and telephone number are:

Executive Director of Georgia Special Olympics commented, "We are very honored to have been chosen as the beneficiary of the GCA philanthropy. Their support will create many new and wonderful opportunities for Georgians with mental retardation."
