Board of Examiners Proposes to Change Code of Regulations

The California Board of Chiropractic Examiners plans to amend Section 315 of Title 16, and add a new Section (353) to its Code of Regulations.

The proposed amendment to Section 315 will create a "diversion program" for DCs. "Diversion Evaluation Committees would identify and seek ways to rehabilitate doctors of chiropractic with impairment due to abuse of dangerous drugs and/or alcohol."

New Section 353 would provide an "avenue of redress to unsuccessful practical examination applicants who believe that due to error or adverse circumstances they were not provided a fair and equitable opportunity to demonstrate their professional competence through the examination process."

Anyone interested in giving an oral statement or submitting written argument may do so at the 9:00 a.m. hearing January 7, 1993 at the Ramada Inn, Windsor Room, 2151 South Hotel Circle in San Diego, California. If you wish to submit written testimony and are unable to attend, send your comments to the Board of Examiners at 3401 Folsom Blvd., Suite B, Sacramento, CA 95816, no later than 5:00 p.m. January 6th.

The competition was a promotion by the Alameda Newspaper Group, publisher of the Daily Review and three other newspapers serving Alameda County from the San Ramon Valley to the San Francisco Bay. PCCW Introduces Accelerated Adjusting Program

Palmer West's new accelerated adjusting program for its chiropractic procedures courses will allow students to start their clinical training after nine months (fourth quarter) into their studies, which is 18 months sooner than Palmer's previous program. Students can now graduate with two and one-half years of supervised adjusting.

The program provides a ratio of six students per clinician. The students receive adjusting credits, and a new spinal adjusting manual with a step-by-step guide for spinal evaluation and adjusting.

PCCW President Dr. Peter Martin assessed the program: "Students from the fourth quarter, in their first academic year, are going to be treating each other in a clinical setting using clinical protocols. By the time these people get to the ninth quarter and their outpatient clinic, they will be well versed and experienced in clinical adjusting, clinical diagnosis. They will be going into the outpatient clinic as fully experienced doctors."

"I am pleased to see such active support from our alumni," said Steve Eckstone, dean of institutional advancement, "This ongoing involvement is also reflected in our 'Adopt a Class' program where new incoming students can speak with successful field doctors who wish to encourage future chiropractors."
