| Digital ExclusiveAP Wire Service Reports on Dr. Sid Williams
Sid Williams, DC, president and founder of Life College, was the subject of an Associated Press (AP) article, "Salesman, Healer, Teacher," written by staff writer Marc Rice. Dr. Williams was interviewed on the Life campus and the story was picked up by newspapers nationwide.
The AP decided to run the story after fielding thousands of calls from TV viewers who watched the Life basketball team (Running Eagles) play in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) postseason basketball tournament. Two of Life's games were carried by the SportSouth TV Network, which covers eight Southeastern states and reaches 3.5 million homes. Cable Channel 69 in Atlanta carried the Running Eagles' quarterfinal and semifinal action on ESPN 2, which was beamed across the country.
The championship game received national coverage on ESPN (62.9 million subscribers). During the finals, sports announcers discussed both chiropractic and Life College, offering information about Dr. Williams and John Downes, DC, team chiropractor for the Running Eagles.
The AP article included a short biography of Dr. Williams, and described his colorful style and "big vision." "Dr. Williams' intense devotion to promoting chiropractic has won him a legion of admirers," wrote Mr. Rice.
