When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."

Dr. Pace to Run for Louisiana State House Seat
Kenneth Pace,DC, has announced his intention to seek election to the Louisiana State House of Representatives (56th district) for the seat vacated by Joel Chaisson II (D).
Dr. Pace has practiced in Metairie, part of suburban New Orleans, since his graduation from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City in 1983. Dr. Pace is a former secretary/treasurer of the Chiropractic Association of Louisiana and has served as chairman of that association's hospital privileges and insurance committees.
Dr. Pace is well-known throughout the profession in Louisiana for his ardent pursuit of what he calls "illegal operations" of the insurance industry when dealing with claims for chiropractic treatment.
Though Louisiana became the last of the 50 states to license doctors of chiropractic (1974), Louisiana chiropractors and patients have benefited from some of the most progressive chiropractic laws in the nation, particularly in insurance reimbursement, a result of continuous chiropractic representation in the Louisiana Senate from 1984 until 1996, and in the Louisiana House from 1988 until 1992. Since 1996, however, no chiropractor has served in the legislature, while the medical establishment has three MDs in the state Senate and an MD in the state House.

FCLB Develops Chiropractic Credentialing Seminar
Supported by grants from the Professional Examination Service (PES) and the NCMIC Insurance Company, the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB) has developed a two-day seminar on chiropractic credentialing, "Understanding Chiropractic: Credentialing Tools for Health Plan Organizations,"
The FCLB is one of six organizations nationally to be funded under the PES 1998 grant awards program, now in its fifth year.
PES is a not-for-profit testing organization that promotes the understanding and use of sound credentialing.
The seminar targets managed care and other credentialing verification organizations in an effort to clear up the considerable confusion that exists regarding chiropractic credentialing. "The FCLB staff receives a number of inquiries regarding board actions, licensure and standard credentialing of chiropractors," explained David Brown,DC, FCLB president. "We must foster partnerships between state regulatory authorities and health plan organizations in the area of credentialing our field."
Dr. Robert Vaughan, a former president of the FCLB, was appointed to develop the program. "We intend to define chiropractic education and accreditation, licensure and regulation, including verification of board actions through CIN-BAD, specialty certification, fraud identification, and varying scopes of practice. One program module will center solely on working effectively with the chiropractic regulatory boards," he explained.
The credentialing seminar is scheduled for September 30-October 2, 1999 in Denver. You can register for the seminar on the FCLB's website: (www.fclb.org ) or contact their executive offices at (970) 356-3500.
NBCE Increases SPEC Exam Schedule
Beginning in the year 2000, the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners will administer the Special Purposes Examination (SPEC) three times a year instead of the current two.
The SPEC exam will continue to be given in March and September, with a third exam added to the yearly schedule beginning next June. The June exam will be offered in Greeley, Colorado, the home of NBCE's executive offices.
The SPEC is designed to assess licensed or previously licensed chiropractors in areas that reflect clinical conditions encountered in general practice. The SPEC is not used for initial licensing purposes and does not replace the NBCE Parts I, II, III and IV regarding initial licensing.
