When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Logan College Names New Facility in Honor of Dr. Harris
CHESTERFIELD, Missouri - Chiropractic philanthropist William Harris,DC, founder and president of the Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic Education (FACE), was honored by Logan College of Chiropractic by naming its future sports and wellness complex after him at a dedication ceremony on site.
Dr. Harris, a native of Opelika, Alabama, was a 1938 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic and began practice in Albany, Georgia that same year. His successful practice led him to establish a practice consulting firm. In 1978 he created FACE, which is funded through the his consulting firm.
But what Dr. Harris is best known for is challenging the profession to raise money for worthy chiropractic education causes and then matching those contributions. FACE has donated more than $5 million to help advance chiropractic education.
When Logan College began making plans for a sports and wellness complex on campus, Dr. Harris issued a $50,000 fundraising challenge to the chiropractic profession. Once the challenge was met, FACE matched the funds, helping Logan succeed in its campaign to raise more than $600,000 for construction of the sports and wellness complex.
The William Harris,DC, Sports/Wellness Complex will include an indoor workout center, a recreation/game room and student government offices. The outdoor area of the complex will include basketball, tennis and sand volleyball courts, a baseball field, a soccer field and a quarter-mile jogging track.
