New York's highest court of appeals has held that no-fault insurers cannot deny no-fault benefits where they unilaterally determine that a provider has committed misconduct based upon alleged fraudulent conduct. The Court held that this authority belongs solely to state regulators, specifically New York's Board of Regents, which oversees professional licensing and discipline. This follows a similar recent ruling in Florida reported in this publication.
First DC in Missouri Legislature?
The chiropractic profession has a golden opportunity to have a greater voice in the Missouri legislature this November. That opportunity comes through the efforts of Charles Portwood, a Manchester chiropractor who is campaigning as the Republican candidate for the state's 92nd District.
Dr. Portwood, who received his undergraduate education at Oklahoma Christian University and his DC from Logan College of Chiropractic, has spent a number of years on the Missouri State Chiropractors Association (MSCA) Board of Directors, legislative committee and PAC. He has testified before House and Senate committees and lobbied across the state on issue of great importance to the chiropractic profession.
Dr. Portwood feels strongly about a number of issues in his district:
- health care
- education
- taxes
- strengthening small business
- transportation
