Because they have yet to pass national legislation protecting the chiropractic profession, Japanese DCs are in a similar situation that U.S. DCs faced. We were fortunate enough to be able to pass chiropractic licensure state by state. The DCs in Japan must accomplish this nationally, which has proved to be an extremely difficult task. And in spite of their efforts, Japanese DCs are currently faced with two chiropractic professions.
NYCC Trustees Select Dr. Nicchi as New President
SENECA FALLS, NY - Frank Nicchi,DC, dean of postgraduate and continuing education at New York Chiropractic College since 1995, has been selected by the college's board of trustees to assume the duties of president of the college beginning September 1, 2000.
Dr. Nicchi, a 1978 graduate of NYCC and faculty member of the college for the past 20 years, will succeed Dr. Kenneth Padgett, president of NYCC since 1989, who will become chancellor of the college.
Dr. Nicchi said he would "reaffirm the school's academic excellence, increase public awareness of chiropractic's benefits, and validate chiropractic principles through exacting research."
Last year, Dr. Padgett announced his intention to retire no later than August 2001, and said he would step down earlier if a successor was chosen and available to serve. Dr. Padgett described Dr. Nicchi as a "competent administrator, abundantly qualified to sustain the progress currently shown by the college."
Since 1980, Dr. Nicchi has been an instructor at NYCC in clinical sciences and technique, and as a clinician at the college's Levittown outpatient facility. He is a member of the New York State Chiropractic Association (NYSCA), and was on the association's board of directors in the mid-1980s.
Dr. Nicchi was an influential advocate for promoting New York State legislation in areas such as diagnostic and laboratory testing by chiropractors. More recently, as a representative of New York Chiropractic College, he has encouraged legislation for mandatory continuing education for chiropractors, and equality of education requirements for chiropractors to obtain certification status in acupuncture. Dr. Nicchi has presented at numerous chiropractic meetings, state conventions, and interdisciplinary venues on topics ranging from chiropractic management of clinical conditions to chiropractic's role in the health care system.
Dr. Nicchi has had an active private practice in Long Island and Queens since 1978. He resides in New Hyde Park, New York.
