Back pain? Blame the psoas. Seems as if everybody wants to dive headfirst into their psoas at the first sign of trouble with the lumbopelvic-hip region. Perhaps no other muscle is blamed more for causing problems than the psoas. Yes, it is an important stabilizer of the lumbar spine, but it shouldn't be the only one on which you focus. There is another big player on the scene: the iliacus.

Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in Whittier held a luncheon to recognize financial contributors to the college this past year. Names of the donors that were added to the college's Hall of Honor were: Dr. and Mrs. Charles Cooke, L.A.; Dr. Lisa Dayan, L.A.; Dr. and Mrs Mel Morrow, Lancaster; and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jones, Hemit, representing the Dr. Edward Chesney estate.
Dr. Reed Phillips, president of LACC, said the contributions have allowed the school to start construction of a new student center, offer new scholarships to worthy students, and to open a new health center near downtown Los Angeles.
Others recognized for their 1999 contributions were: Dr. Andrew Lee, Redlands; Dr. Joseph Howe, Agua Dulce; Dr. Stephen Smith, Buena Park; the estate of Leo Rosenhouse; the estate of Dr. Elton Glenn Williamson; and the LACC Associated Student Body.
Life Chiropractic College West has named Michael Comini as the new dean of students. Mr. Comini, who studied psychology as an undergraduate and holds a master's in social work, previously was the executive director of Planned Parenthood of North Texas, Inc., Fort Worth.
Life Chiropractic College West in San Lorenzo, has named Kendra Holloway,DC, as director of the postgraduate and continuing education department. She has served as the department's acting director since February 1999.
Dr. Holloway, who earned her DC degree from Life West in 1996, has maintained a private, part-time chiropractic practice in Alameda since 1997.
Roseanne Becker has been appointed vice president for development and executive director of the Cleveland Foundation. The Cleveland Foundation, established in 1998, is the nonprofit philanthropic corporation of Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles and Kansas City.
Roseanne Becker has worked the past 12 years as a professional fundraiser.
