New York's highest court of appeals has held that no-fault insurers cannot deny no-fault benefits where they unilaterally determine that a provider has committed misconduct based upon alleged fraudulent conduct. The Court held that this authority belongs solely to state regulators, specifically New York's Board of Regents, which oversees professional licensing and discipline. This follows a similar recent ruling in Florida reported in this publication.
Virginia Chiropractor Wins Top Award
The Virginia Society of Chiropractic (VSC) bestowed its "Chiropractor of the Year" award for 2001 on Daniel Cohen,DC,CAd, of Portsmouth. The host of the show "Health from a Different Perspective" (broadcast on his community's television station, WGOT), Dr. Cohen was recognized for his work with children and the disabled.
A member of the Virginia Society of Chiropractic Board of Directors, Dr. Cohen also chairs its insurance relations and interdisciplinary relations committees. He is a member of the International Chiropractors Association, and of the Chiropractic Performing Artists Association. His "CAd" designates him as a "certified addictionologist."
The VSC also presented Dr. Cohen with its "Outstanding Service Award" for work within the Tidewater District.
