MRI is currently the gold standard for identifying radicular pathology, but unfortunately, it requires preauthorization, which isn’t easy to obtain. Physical tests are what most practitioners depend on – despite the marginal reliability of the tests. The information in this article brings history and observation to the forefront of radicular diagnostics. Each factor listed can significantly increase the clinician’s ability to diagnose radiculopathies.

New Study Highlights Informed-Consent Inconsistencies
The Clinical Compass (originally the Council on Clinical Guidelines and Practice Parameters – CCGPP) has completed a new national study that “identified significant variations in informed consent requirements for chiropractors across U.S. state, district, and territory licensing jurisdictions.”
Findings are based on a review of all 50 states, one federal district and five U.S. territories. According to the findings, summarized in a Clinical Compass press release, “most jurisdictions (82%) do not specify a required format for informed consent, and many do not provide detailed guidance on what should be included in the consent process. However, a small group of jurisdictions – such as North Carolina and Oregon – offer more comprehensive recommendations, incorporating key elements of the PARQ framework (Procedures, Alternatives, Risks, and Questions).”
