When sports chiropractors first appeared at the Olympic Games in the 1980s, it was alongside individual athletes who had experienced the benefits of chiropractic care in their training and recovery processes at home. Fast forward to Paris 2024, where chiropractic care was available in the polyclinic for all athletes, and the attitude has now evolved to recognize that “every athlete deserves access to sports chiropractic."
Chiropractic Flexes Muscles at Natural Body Building Competition
As further proof that chiropractic is again taking a leading role in the treatment of athletes, the First Annual Northern California Natural Body Building Competition and Fitness Show on September 19th will be supervised by DC Gary K. Hermansen.
Dr. Hermansen commented on chiropractic's fast-growing involvement in drug-free bodybuilding: "There are several docs around the country who are putting on shows, judging, etc. I've spoken with two of them, Dr. Jeff Walker in Idaho and Dr. Gene James in Arizona. We swap stories and advice."
The Palo Alto event, which will feature approximately 25 drug-free body builders and competition between several aerobics teams, is a qualifying competition for the Mr. and Mrs. USA Naturals Competition to be held the following week in Phoenix, Arizona. Proceeds from the amateur event will be donated to the local YMCA's "Say Yes for Kids" program.
"For me, the rewards I've already gained from being involved have made the effort worth it," said Dr. Hermansen. "If we manage to raise a nice sum of money from the show to donate to a local kids' program, it's going to be icing on the cake."
