Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) alumni Michael Reed, DC, Eric St. Pierre, DC, and Tetsuya Hasegawa, DC, have been selected by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) to serve on the 47-member medical staff that will support U.S. athletes at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada. The competitions will take place Feb. 12-28, 2010. The medical team is a multidisciplinary group of medical doctors, doctors of chiropractic, certified athletic trainers, physical therapists and massage therapists.
Dr. Reed is medical director of the Sports Performance Division for the United States Olympic Committee at the Headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo. He is serving as the medical director for Team USA at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. This position entails, along with the chief medical officer, coordination of care for all members of the U.S. delegation.
He has served as a faculty member in the SCU postgraduate division since 1984 and developed the sports medicine residency program at the university, serving as its first director. Dr. Reed is a December 1981 graduate of Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) at SCU and earned the Masters of Applied Science in Musculoskeletal Management degree awarded by SCU in conjunction with Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.
Dr. St. Pierre will serve as a member of the U.S. Olympic medical staff for the short track speedskating team. Additionally, he will have duties caring for athletes in the Olympic Village in Vancouver. Dr. St. Pierre has a wide array of Olympic sport experience, including time spent with U.S. speedskating, bobsled/skeleton, water polo, weight-lifting and volleyball. Currently, he is the head trainer for the national short track speedskating team and an independent practitioner at South Point Medical Center in Lafayette, Colo.
Dr. St. Pierre has a doctor of chiropractic degree from LACC at SCU, where he also completed the sports medicine residency program. He also has a bachelor's degree in movement science and sports medicine from Westfield State College in Westfield, Mass.
Dr. Hasegawa will serve as a member of the U.S. Olympic medical staff for the bobsled and skeleton teams, and provide care for the athletes housed in the Whistler Olympic Village. For the 2007-2008 seasons, he joined the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Sports Medicine Team as a DC and a certified athletic trainer to provide care for athletes competing in those sports.
Dr. Hasegawa has a doctor of chiropractic degree from LACC at SCU. He also has a master's of science in health promotion from the University of Mississippi, and a bachelor's of science in health and sports sciences from the University of Oklahoma.

The results of a global survey released late last year (2023) unveiled some startling findings among medical and nursing students. The “Clinician of the Future: 2023 Education Edition” surveyed 2,212 students, of which 446 were in the United States, from 91 countries.
